Sources: Middlesbrough agree deal to sign Tottenham product Tom Glover

Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to sign Australian goalkeeper Tom Glover on a free transfer, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Tottenham youngster has reached an agreement on a long-term deal at the Riverside after passing a medical.

Glover, 25, is a free agent after leaving A-League side Melbourne City.

Boro are in need of a new No.1 keeper after Zack Steffen returned to Manchester City following his successful loan spell.

The 28-year-old made 45 appearances for the Championship club last season and kept ten clean sheets in those outings.

Steffen was between the sticks for a season that saw Michael Carricks’ Middlesbrough secure a play-off spot and narrowly miss out on promotion to the English top flight.

Steffen returns to the Etihad where he has made 21 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side since joining in 2019.

Glover made 31 appearances for Australian side Melbourne City last season and kept eight clean sheets in those outings and conceded 41 goals.

Although the shot stopper has been selected for the Australia national side, and appeared on the bench, he is yet to make his senior team debut.

The Aussie began his career with Spurs’ academy but spent the majority of his time at the club on loan before making the permanent switch back home in 2019.

Glover failed to make an appearance for the Lilywhites’ first team but featured 25 times for the Under-21s side.
